For the past 35 years, Sandra Burshell’s pastel paintings have portrayed the quiet tranquility of the daily scene, where light, color, and atmosphere create the warmth and intimacy of everyday life…figures in their homes and interior scenes where they have just stepped out – all share common, yet cherished experiences of life.
Enter COVID-19:Artists must be adaptable to new realities and art practices.
Sandra morphed her 15+ year-old weekly live figure drawing group (NEW ORLEANS DRAWING GROUP) from a New Orleans coffeehouse into a zoom venue since April. These Zoom figure sessions now have models posing in their own homes, in their own personal everyday settings. Sandra now can integrate her own personal love of her interiors (roomscapes) with her other love, the figure. (If interested in joining, more details about the drawing group are included below).
Sandra’s pastel works have been recognized nationally and internationally in invitational and juried exhibitions and in featured leading art magazines. She was selected be one of a few to be honored in a special tribute to American Women Pastelists at the “Pastels of the World in Bourbonnais”, at the Orange of the Castle of LA Louviere, Montlucon, France, in the Spring, 2021.
For over 30 years, she has been represented by the Carol Robinson Gallery, New Orleans.
